Want to get involved with the Alumni Club of the UK? We are now accepting nominations for open positions on the Board of Directors!

The Alumni Club of the UK Volunteer Board is currently accepting applications for the positions of Vice President, Programming Co-Chair, and Career and Networking Co-Chair. Candidates should be thoughtful, creative, engaged with the UChicago community, and strongly committed to strengthening ties among alumni in the UK and with the University. Alumni, parents and friends of UChicago in the UK are considered members of the Club. Any member in the UK may nominate another member, or him-or herself, to serve as director. The deadline for submitting an application is September 1, 2019. New board members will begin their 2-year term on October 1, 2019.

Vice President

  • Assist the president in furthering the goals of the club/group and act in the absence of the president
  • Foster and develop leadership among the directors
  • Build an implementation plan for the president’s strategy, especially regarding volunteer recruitment and board member training and retention
  • All Board of Director members are expected to attend all BoD meetings, attend Club events, and help maintain and develop the UChicago community in the UK

Programming Co-Chair

  • Responsible for planning and executing 6 or more club events per year, across a range of topics, formats and costs targeted toward the broader UChicago alumni community in New York. Most events will be led by volunteers with the co-chair’s oversight.
  • Organize and lead two club planning meetings a year.  Recruit and support new and ongoing volunteers
  • Takes the lead on developing local support for large-scale national “big tent” events produced by the University (Phoenixphest, Harper Lectures)
  • Ensures proper marketing and communications for events in conjunction with the Communications Co-Chairs by maintaining contact with the Alumni Association
  • Coordinates event promotion with the Communications Chair with other local volunteers for UChicago Community Online and social media outreach
  • All Board of Director members are expected to attend all BoD meetings, attend Club events, and help maintain and develop the UChicago community in the UK

Career and Networking Co-Chair

  • Responsible for coordinating or collaborating on 2-3 networking events, panels and/or career related activities
  • Assist with and provide input on digital and/or in-person programming sponsored by the Alumni Association in November
  • In conjunction with the Alumni Association and other campus partners, take an active role in identifying internships, externships, mentorship opportunities, and job opportunities for local alumni
  • All Board of Director members are expected to attend all BoD meetings, attend Club events, and help maintain and develop the UChicago community in the UK

Young Alumni Programming Chair

  • Organize and execute 4-6 events annually, specifically targeting the local young alumni community, with support from and in coordination with Programming Co-Chairs
  • Serve as a resource in identifying opportunities to engage meaningfully with young alumni in the region and welcome new arrivals to the community
  • Assist in recruiting new volunteers, potential board members, and other alumni volunteers based on current needs and priorities
  • Support fellow board members as necessary with strategic advisory support and management of the various committees
  • Attend all board meetings, attend or assist with other club events, and help maintain and develop the UChicago community in the UK
     

For all positions, applicants must be a member in good standing at the time of their selection, and at all times during their tenure. Each successful candidate shall serve not more than two consecutive terms in any office. Please reference the volunteer expectations for more information.
